Whats been happening?
So, we’ve made some huge changes over the last few months and we have finally found 10 minutes to sit down to really talk to you about them! So here’s the story so far.
At the end of 2018 we realised that it was no longer feasible to continue running a factory as large as ours in the current economic climate. This is not a unique problem to us with many others companies facing similar problems. The usual solutions were looked at, all of which were fairly depressing. However, as we braced for the worst a unique offer was made.
The current owners of Hollingworth and Moss (Richard Hollingworth & Jane Hollingworth) offered to buy Spink and Thackray. What was unique about this offer was that they wanted us to continue on as Spink and Thackray as oppose to simply merging with H&M, they appreciated the craftsmanship and the skills we’ve built up over decades of working in this industry. They understood that we stood for quality. They know this because, before setting up Hollingworth and Moss, Richards farther worked for Spink and Thackray and Richard himself is a book binder born and bread. This deal would bring things full circle and put some of the best in the business together under the same roof. The offer was accepted.
In December we embarked on the impossible task of packing up an entire factory and moving it into the Hollingworth and Moss premiss within a month. This took almost 4 weeks of nonstop packing of vans and dismantling of the workshop and we spent most of Christmas passed out from exhaustion!
To our loyal customers we’d like to say a big thank you for putting up with the disruption! We are starting to get back to something that resembles normality, normal for Spinks anyway! And we’d like you to know as far as your concerned nothing changes, we will continue to uphold the quality and standards you expect from us, if you have had books done with us before they will still be done by us, Terry wouldn’t have it any other way!
What you do need to know is that we are now based within the Hollingworth and Moss workshop. So when you visit you will go into their reception but simply ask for Spink and Thackray and one of the team will come and see you. We know this is a strange set up but so far it’s working!
Ok maybe some things have changed! We now have access to a TONE of new equipment including computerised lettering machines and cloth trimmers, a printing and digital book scanning suit that boggles the mind and of course the H&M staff who are genuinely some of the nicest and most skilled workers you could meet. What this means to our customers is that we can now take on more varied and much bigger jobs. We can’t wait to see what you come up with.
we’re excited for the future, we are looking forward to start working on some stunning new products including an oh so touchable saddle hide leather menu, gorgeous layflat photo albums and a customisable note book that you won’t want to put down.
We are looking forward to getting involved in this internet thing and hopefully you’ll join us on Instagram and Facebook. Please be patient with us whilst we get to grips with it all, we’re very analogue, these 1’s and 0’s are going to take some time to get used to! Things are looking brighter than they have in a long time and we hope you’ll come with us on this journey.
