Adding a Touch of Quality
This is done by heating up individual pieces of metal type or a metal die (You will likely hear us referring to them as ‘Blocks’! ) and applying pressure onto the foil which bonds it to the material.
Unlike foil printers which may only skim the surface, our foiled products not only give you a beautifully foiled design, but also leave an embossed impression. This additional tactile element immediately gives any item we block the look, and just as important, the feel of quality.
The first step is to supply us with your artwork. All artwork supplied should be black and white, the black area is the area that will be foiled onto your book/item. Below are the image requirements. If all the numbers below look a little confusing don't worry just give us a call or drop us an email and we can help you through it!
Images resolution should be at least 150dpi but 300dpi is ideal.
Artwork supplied should be oversized or to the exact size you would like it to be when foiled. Undersized images that have to be scaled up don't result in a good die/block and massivly reduce the quality of the final embossing.
Artwork should be supplied in one of the following formats: jpg, tiff, pdf, png, eps
Once we have your artwork we will have a die made which look something like the one above.
As you can see the area that was black on the artwork is raised and the edges are nice and clean due to the quality of the art supplied.
All that's left to do now is foil the book or in this case menu cover.
The final stage involves heating up the die/block in a blocking press and placing a sheet of foil over the item to be blocked. Pressure is applied and the foiling/embossing is completed.
We have a wide range of foils with the traditional gold and silver being the most popular. If you had something else in mind just ask and we will try our best to find you a suitable foil.
