Spink and Thackray Bookbinders, based in Leeds, was established in 1872. We are a small dedicated team with our most recent recruit joining us just over 13 years ago. Combined we have more than 120 years experience in a wide range of book binding, conservation and finishing techniques.
We employ traditional methods to produce high quality finished items. All our books are sewn with cotton placed on the spine to provide additional support to the joint. For library work and most one off bindings we use durable book cloths. Finally books end up in our finishing department where we use a hot foil process to deboss designs and type to the outside of the finished cases.
This process and the materials used ensure a durable and quality book finish to everything that leaves our workshop.
Our clients are wide ranging. From restaurants who require bespoke menu covers to University Libraries and musicians.
At Spink and Thackray we deal with everything after the print process which means we work closely with printers and designers to produce items to their customer specifications.
